Training Hike Complete: Raising Vital Funds for Falcon Support Services

Design Only Gardens is raising vital funds for Falcon Support Services because they are committed to supporting homeless people and those who are at risk of homelessness.

The Design Only Gardens team ventured into the Peak district to tackle Kinder Scout on a 12 mile loop as apart of their training for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, raising vital funds of Falcon Support Services, homelessness prevention charity based in Loughborough, in this September 2023.

The weather was not on their side, initially rain bombarded them as they scaled waterfalls and approached the summit, but thankfully the sun did come out for the final few miles, ensuring they were dry before finishing.

Lee Hardy, the charity's community fundraiser, supported the team in navigating and preparing a kit list for the team.

Starting at Edale, the Deisgn Only Gardens team consisting of directors, Taylor and Jake and Jake's younger brother Jamie tackled a waterfall ascent up to Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak district at over 2,000 ft.

This was a first major milestone for the team, taking the opportunity to wear their new kit and ensure they are up for the task.

There was lessons to be learnt with some members of the team encountering painful blisters and the cold was harsher than expected for July.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a demanding hiking challenge that involves climbing three peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in one trip. This will be twice the duration of the training hike undertaken. Design Only Gardens is taking on this challenge to raise money for Falcon Support Services, knowing that the funds they raise will help the charity continue its vital work in supporting vulnerable people in the local community.

Recognising the physical demands of their task, the team will be upping the ante on their training over the coming months.

Design Only Gardens intends to make a significant impact by generating funds for Falcon Support Services. Their efforts contribute to offering crucial assistance to individuals facing homelessness or those in jeopardy of becoming homeless. This support plays a pivotal role in transforming lives by aiding in the discovery and upkeep of safe and stable housing, facilitating access to essential services, and empowering individuals and their families to construct a more promising future.
